This tracer study evaluates the long-term impact of Tautua-supported training programs in literacy, numeracy, and youth skills. Conducted in 2024, it gathers insights from past participants to assess outcomes, identify gaps, and guide future programming.

Through the Tautua Program, teachers receive targeted training to strengthen language and literacy instruction in classrooms. The training supports inclusive and effective teaching practices, equipping educators with tools to improve student learning outcomes. Teachers are applying the skills gained from the training in the classrooms.

Tailored preparedness plans developed to strengthen the safety and resilience of 17 schools in Samoa. The plans aim to ensure that each school is well prepared to respond effectively to any potential natural or man made disasters, with the goal of protecting the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

In supporting the foundations of lifelong learning 11 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centres were supported with learning resources to enhance the learning experience for children - empowering educators and nurturing young minds. This initiative serves as incentives for parents to enrol their children in ECE.

Celebrating academic excellence and leadership, the Piu Scholars program supports Samoan students from Piu community by nurturing the next generation of changemakers.

Through the Tautua Program, support was provided to Salelologa Primary School with essential resources including books, bookshelves, and a new water tank. This initiative reflects our commitment to improving learning environments and supporting the wellbeing of students in local communities.

As part of Disaster and Emergency Management Planning, educators from across Samoa are offered intensive First Aid training in order to support their emergency response skills and ensuring our schools and children are safe. This hands-on workshop, is supported to empower teachers with the confidence and knowledge on how to act swiftly when every second counts. Together, we aim to help build a more resilient Samoa, one classroom at a time.

Funded through the Tautua Program, this three-year study—led by ACER in partnership with the Ministry of Education & Culture explored how Samoa’s education system can better withstand disruptions and improve student outcomes. It examined policies, classroom practices, and community engagement to identify strengths and challenges in literacy, numeracy, and inclusive education. Findings will guide future reforms to ensure more resilient and equitable learning.

There are many factors contributing to student performance, however, the influence of teachers on their learning and experiences is key. The review evaluates the relevance and effectiveness of in-service professional development (ISPTD) for primary school teachers and principals in Samoa. An Action Plan informed by review findings has been developed, aiming to better equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge.
